Commissions

A place, a person, a pet, a wedding. The piece is made from what you bring her and stays her own painting.

A bride and groom standing before a flowered cross at the edge of a lake, hills behind.

What a commission is

You describe the subject and the wall it will live on, and send photographs. She paints it in acrylic on canvas, laid on thickly, high in key, on a pale ground.

How it runs

  1. A conversation

What the painting is of, roughly how large, and when it is needed.

  2. Reference

Photographs from you. For a person or an animal, several in good daylight, from more than one angle, at the height you actually see them.

  3. A sketch

The composition agreed before any paint is mixed.

  4. The painting

Acrylic on canvas, in her own hand, shown as it goes.

  5. Delivery

    Collected, or packed and shipped.

Pet and portrait commissions

A terrier’s head in cream, ochre and white against a deep blue ground worked in swirls.

Animals and people are commissioned the same way.

The reference photographs matter more here than anywhere else: a clear, well-lit photograph taken at the animal’s own eye level gives her the face; a dark one taken from above gives her a shape.
